Hey Baby

Hey Baby,

We are almost 30 weeks strong! I sure am proud of us. You are kicking up a storm! Boom, pow, squish, flip, your movements are stronger and more pronounced than ever. You make my stomach morph into lopsided shapes, and it couldn't make me happier. Just the other night, your dad was amazed and felt how strong you've become. Keep it up! Your room is coming together with the design sense of your mama and the strength of your papa. I hope you like all the animal friends hanging out in your room. We'll name them together. I even saved a few of my childhood stuffed and fluffy friends. They will love you too. I can't wait to rock you in our rocker. I say "our" because it's the same one I was once rocked in. It's had a facelift since the 80's but it's the same ol' guy. Some things to note about you and me at this stage of "baking:"
- I am mucho sleepy again just like we were in the beginning.
- My vision has markedly gotten worse. I can tell most when I'm typing on the computer
- You wake up early in the morning for your 4 a.m. kickboxing session
- I can't bend over with comfort any longer.
- Your dad has to help me into the shower as my balance is wonky.
- I drink a bazillion glasses of water a day and still my skin is dry. That's okay, you take all the H2O you need.
- I've gained 16 pounds and passed my glucose test. Victory is ours.
- Your dad says he likes my newly, more voluptuous, brazier size ;), my back, however, does not.
- I walk funny now. It resembles a penguin.

10 more weeks, my sweet boy. Love you forever,
Mama

Week 28

I've made it to 28 weeks and boy do I have a belly to show for it. I haven't had ultrasounds since the scare and so I'm praying my belly is proof I have a growing and healthy baby boy in there just doing what he needs to do.

In these last couple of weeks, I've found myself in a state of contemplation more than usual. I find myself deeply buried in my mind thinking about all the changes my body is going through and my baby.

With an ever-growing belly, my body-size awareness has altered. I'm acutely aware that I'm larger and carrying precious cargo and it has made me much more cautious (obviously slower) when doing normal things like stepping into the shower, or even crossing the street. It's not so much that my balance is off (okay it is a little) but that I'm carrying another life along for the ride. One slip, or misjudgment affects so much more than me. And then I think, "welcome to the rest of your life, Lindsay." This is just a small reality of the truth moving forward (I can almost hear my mom saying this to me).

Shifting gears to the baby. I can keep him safe while he's nestled inside of me. But the fear I feel thinking about all the craziness in life the little guy will have to witness, participate and learn from, at times, is enough to send someone into panic mode. Yesterday, a couple of men sharing the same corner of the sidewalk waiting to cross the street (who looked to be coming down from a high of some sort  and by the looks of it, I would guess meth) were discussing ways to stab another. You know, a normal conversation between two people. One of them saw me in the corner of his eye and turned to ask me if I had any spare change. My reaction was to put a protective hand over my belly and I answered "no." My answer was not because it was the truth, but because I was a little frightened by his overall state. My reaction was instinctual. When the light changed so that we could cross the street, I kept the protective hand over my son and immediately said a prayer for those two men. I threw in a prayer for their mothers and then I prayed for my son. My heart hurt for my son and the temptations in life he will have to experience. For a moment, I feared for my baby to have to come into this world. And yet, all I can do is strive to be a good steward and teacher, just like my mother was to me.

Good News!

Today Matt and I received amazing news! My high-risk pregnancy is no longer at risk! My insides look normal! I can go back to doing light exercise, running errands and being me! Also, little boy is growing, growing. He weighs 1lbs 6 oz already! I can't believe it. In today's ultrasound he looked so big, I can't imagine 5 or 6 more pounds added to it, however, they will be welcomed with open arms.

I'm just so thankful my baby is safe.

We're having a...

We are so excited to announce our news! Finally being able to share the gender has propelled us even further into the realization that THIS IS HAPPENING!

We've started decorating the baby room and planning out where things are to go. Envisioning that this is the space our child will learn to know as theirs makes it all the more important to us. Matt recently refurbished the same rocking chair I was rocked in as a babe and as I sat in it the other day, I couldn't help but get a little teary eyed knowing the same comforting chair that rocked me to sleep will be the same for our boy. Some things are totally worth saving.

Distraction

Call it nesting, call it me, but the bug is ITCHING.

I've always loved interior design. In fact, it's what I originally set out to do with my self (2 degree changes later, things...evolved). I've never lost the passion, it just comes and goes according to what my bank account allows.

Insert pregnancy and the opportunity to decorate a baby room. Holy passion re-ignition. Last night I laid in bed awake (for what seemed like hours)with my brain firing right and left and wheels churning of the different things I could do with a 4- walled blank canvas.

Yesterday I was blown away by the designs and home of this family. What a colorfully elegant and creative home! The wife has a blog called Peppermint Bliss. It's worth checking out. I'd love to pick her brain and go shopping with her. Or, she could just come in and re-do my home. Yes, please come give it a face-lift?

When my creative self is on fire, I can't help but wonder what the hell I'm doing sitting behind a desk. I've got too many ideas to share to be pushing papers.

Needless to say, my creative brain has distracted my "every day at work" brain. I just want to get lost in the beautiful ideas of new interior design and color and NOT file a new "case."

Birthday

Saturday was Matt's birthday. I had all sorts of plans and when I had to go into the hospital a second time last weekend, I knew it wasn't going to go as planned. Honestly, I shouldn't have been too surprised. I  couldn't help but be disappointed. My husband LOVES birthdays. The fact that this is his 30th, means that it's extra special. I wanted to go all out! A weekend of fun. His 30th is on a Saturday for goodness sakes.

The reality is that Matt loved his special day. Event though I'm limited in what I can physically do, I can accomplish anything. I may have to modify my original plan, and reach out to others for help (I have the hardest time with that) but everything truly does work out.

Bed Rest

I've made it to 19 weeks. Almost half way there and every day I'm thankful I can feel the Little kicking away at my abdomen. I suppose I'm lucky in a way. I've gotten to "see" our baby multiple times and hear the heartbeat almost every week this past month and sometimes three times a day. If you know me, I live by music, but I have to tell you folks, the sound of my baby's heartbeat is the most beautiful music I've ever heard.

Pregnancy, to me, is no doubt a miracle. It's beautiful, and it's messy. There is a human growing inside of me! Amazing! I'm thankful for this gift, and I have to say, there is so much about pregnancy that people don't talk about. (TMI to follow) The bloating, the gas, the extra "fluids", the fatigue, the worry, the aches, the pains, the wonder, the nausea (oh the nausea!), the emotional roller coaster-- people, it's no walk in the park. At least it hasn't been for me. And still I wouldn't trade a thing if it means our Little will be with us in the end.

I thought I lost Little twice now. Two very scary moments and two trips to the hospital have made me terrified to do the things one does every day... move. Long story short, I'm a high-risk pregnancy. At this point, the goal is to not go into pre-term labor. (Come on body, you can do this! You've trained for triathlon's, you've climbed mountains!) The docs have me on bed rest and boy is this body/ mind having a hard time resting. Praying, believing in my body and waiting is all I'm holding on to. Oh and these miraculous pictures...
